The Hangouts app synchronizes with your Gmail account, so all your email contacts are already connected to you through Hangouts, whether you log in on a mobile device or through a desktop computer. To begin a chat with a co-worker, open the Hangouts app. If you don't already have a Hangout started with a specific contact, choose the contact's name and send an invitation to a Hangout.

You can now start chatting by typing a message at the bottom of the chat screen and tapping send. Beyond text messaging, you can tap the phone icon to start an audio call or the video icon to start a video call, like you can in your Gmail chat box on a desktop computer. Only instead of logging in to your Gmail inbox to chat them up, you do it directly from the app on your phone. A convenient aspect of using the Hangouts app on mobile devices is that it keeps your team communication out of your email inbox and vice versa.

It is tempting to keep your email inbox open all day, especially if you are expecting important messages, but it can also be a vehicle for procrastination.
