With each passing year, Motorola is bringing few improvements to improve the design language of their mid-range phones and the G7 Play is no exception. This year the first prominent change with Moto G7 Play is a reduction of thick bezels from the top and bottom of the display. Motorola adopted the traditional wider notch for the G7 Play. The bottom bezel is also relatively thinner than the predecessor, it also has Motorola branding.
The rear side has single snapper enclosed in a circle with LED flashlight. The fingerprint scanner is on the rear side embedded in the Moto batwing logo. Last year's Moto G6 Play has thick bezels at the top and bottom of the display. The top bezel has earpiece, front-facing camera and LED flashlight. The fingerprint scanner is on the rear side under the camera setup. On the rear side, you will get a single sensor with LED flashlight. The camera setup is enclosed in Motorola's traditional circle.
Both the phones have polycarbonate chassis that's why both doesn't look premium. The G7 Play comes with a micro-textured resin coating on the rear. Both the phones come with a water-repellent coating which provides resistance against water spills up to some extent. It supports memory expansion up to GB only. The Adreno is on board as GPU. Usually the camera's setup is the main aspect where budget-friendly phones lag behind but fortunately, the G6 Play and G7 Play are a relatively better option than most of the phones in this category. Both the phones perform pretty well in stable lighting conditions, however in low-light conditions the results are shaky.

The camera sensor on the G7 Play remains similar to the predecessor. On the front-facing, the selfie snapper also remains 8MP like the predecessor. The hardware setup remains similar to the predecessor, however, Motorola brought few software improvements. The selfie snapper can also capture portrait shots with bokeh effects.
The rear camera comes High-Res zoom with 2x digital zoom feature which provides digital zoom up to 2x without affecting the image quality. Unfortunately, the battery is certainly one key area where the G7 Play lags significantly behind the G6 Play.
The G6 Play was marketed as the mid-range phone with two days battery life but it seems like that won't be the case with the G7 Play. Motorola claims the G7 Play can last 40 hours on a single charge which means you may not get as much low battery life as looking on the paper. On the other hand, the G6 Play was announced with Android Oreo 8. The best thing is custom UI skin on both the devices is quite close to the stock version of Android OS.
