All in all the phone is pretty good, once it's unlocked. Android 10, it's fast, nice screen, every app I've tried works no problem, and it looks good. MIUI works well and has a few handy enhancements, plus looks a lot nicer than stock Android. The pop up camera works fine but is a bit annoying, as if you get a video call it will open in your pocket. The key problem I have with this phone is unlocking it. The in-screen fingerprint reader is fairly poor - if you have perfectly clean hands and get your finger perfectly on the sensor it works about three times slower than a hardware fingerprint reader.

Others I've talked to with the same phone don't have as much of a problem as me, or perhaps are more patient. Pattern lock requires you to swipe up to get to the pattern, then do the pattern, which seems like a pointless additional motion to unlock the phone, but if fingerprint unlock continues to bug me I might use that, or disable locking completely. Also, the phone locks as soon as the screen goes off, unlike my old phone which you could set a timeout which also would've mitigated this problem.

All in all I wish I'd read about this before I bought the phone, because if I'd known about this I wouldn't have purchased it. I'm happy with MIUI and Xiaomi, it's the in-screen fingerprint reader that bugs me, coupled with the no smart lock. The Xiaomi Mi 9T has been an awesome replacement for my aging Mi 5. The value you get in this featureful phone is second to none.
