Several sources in and around the Bulldogs' program have talked about the maturity and leadership the 6-foot-4, pound Newman has already brought into the program. The Wake Forest players at the NFL combine couldn't wait to talk about their former teammate, and they all predicted great success for him at Georgia.

Wake Forest cornerback Essang Bassey agreed. Timmons said that while schools are shutdown there are still gyms Newman has found to work out in. But more than anything, he believes Newman has invested his time looking to learn the offense. Edwards is a projected lottery pick, with some mock drafts having him going No. The Atlanta Holy Spirit Prep School product also led the team in steals, tied for the team lead in blocked shots , and he was second on the team in assists and rebounds. The 6-foot-6, pound Edwards was sensational at times this season, scoring 33 points in the final 16 minutes of a loss to Michigan State.

No doubt, Edwards star power was key to Georgia setting a single-season home attendance record and selling out seven of the Bulldogs' home dates. The difference was, Edwards had learned by the end of the season not to allow a poor shooting night to affect other areas of his game. Amarius Mims: 5-star OT priority sets his commitment date.

Amarius Mims has had some time on his hands of late. To think. The same as the rest of us. That's given the 5-star OT and the priority for the class some time to conclude which programs are really in it for his college decision. The recruiting process marches on. Mims feels that way, too. He took to his social media account on Thursday to share word that he will be making his college decision during his senior season. That's something for all of us to look forward to.

  • He was primary used as a tight end for his athleticism during his sophomore season in Georgia basketball finished playing at its best, Tom Crean improving program. Georgia basketball was just getting going when the sports world came to stop one week ago today. No doubt, the shutdown of the remainder of the NBA season the night before had been a sign of things to come across the country. There has been one closing after another, sports in no way excluded from coronavirus pandemic that many health officials believe originated in China and has spread around the world. But in looking back at the Georgia basketball season, the second under Crean, it finished on a decidedly high note.

The program is by no means a finished project. The roster remains in dire need of tall, dominant players like prematurely departed UGA player Nicholas Claxton.

Obliviocy: Maybe it Came from the Head

Anyone who was still tuned in for the start of the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament last week who dared to believe there might still be hope for this UGA group was rewarded with the win over Ole Miss. The Bulldogs moved in the half-court offense throughout. They took advantage of transition opportunities and finished at the rim, they communicated on defense, they deflected passes, they hit the boards, they hit shots. And they won, impressively.

The team's most-lopsided SEC victory came when it mattered most, momentum had seemingly arrived just in time with Florida on deck. But we did see the Bulldogs knock the Razorbacks off the bubble two weeks ago in what proved to be the final home victory of the season. It was quite the turnaround from the point loss the Bulldogs suffered in Knoxville the year before, to the extent of silencing the infamous VolTwitter crowd.

Never mind the Rebels record, or the fact it was a game in the opening round. What impressed most was that Georgia bounced back from sound defeats at the hands of Florida and on the road at LSU One of the worst losses of the season was followed by one of the biggest wins just for days later.

That's resilience, and that translates to leadership from coaches and players. Junior Rayshaun Hammonds, recently described as 'standoffish' at times by a teammate, wore a smile and played with passion. Hammonds' 22 points and 11 rebounds were the sort of performance most believe he's capable of every night out in the SEC.

Senior guard Jordan Harris showed his coordination could match his athleticism, making 8 of 11 shots and defending well while fouling just once. Point guard Sahvir Wheeler, set the season freshman record for assists, dishing out eight and keeping the offensive on the attack. The so-called 'Antman' didn't put the team on his back via his scoring, as he did in many other prime moments, so much as his maturity. They were the same age as the other kids, including my daughters. Unfortunately, some adults do not think before they speak and say things that are hurtful to the young kids. Even though a kid is 6 foot tall and looks much older they can still be Sometimes, with girls especially, they are also often self concious about their size if they are unusually tall.

Adults that say inconsiderate things only make it worse.

And as coaches of kids who are bigger for their age we know the accusations are coming. Since they are always playing in the correct age group I am always more than happy to show some one a picture idea that shows their date of birth. But most people don't stop and think that if someone was really going to cheat, the last player they would want to pick up is a 6 foot tall 10 year old.

I honestly think they much rather would shoot for a player that is skilled, but closer to the same size as the majority of kids.

But it really gets old getting accused of cheating just because you have a tall girl on your team. And if you don't know for sure, you should make sure you are right before you start accusing anyone. Most people would be surprised that if anyone is cheating, they are probably doing it with average sized kids.

It is not playing down and cheating, it is a lack of ethics, integrity, values. Rules came out on playing down last spring. The honor system failed from the very top to the very bottom. Look at all the state and world series teams.

We had 1st yr 14b vs teams with 16a players rostered, undefeated vs the 18b teams played. There is a difference between right and wrong. I want my daughter learn that 1st, excell at academics 2nd, enjoy playing sports falls down to 5th or 6th. Apparently i am the very lonesome with my assessment. Thank you batter up. My daughter was close to 6 foot when she was We heard it all the time. Either this coach wanted to intimidate which seems he did, or the girls are that tall, because if you wanted a ringer you'd get a shrimpy 15 year old, undeveloped, and kick butt.

If the team didn't win, who cares? To clear a few things up: the games i saw, no one said a word to the girls or the coaches, not parents, not opposing coaches, nothing.

Nobody was trying to attack anyone. I think we were just making people aware of what it is like to have an unusually tall girl on your team. You hear it every game, so it is obvious most do not think about it from that perspective. Also in the original post it does say birth certificates were asked for and checked, but they didn't believe they were real. Something else you hear too often as well.

Once again I was not attacking you or the original poster. Just presenting a side that was very revelant to the topic. This is the quote i kind of thought went after the original poster I know this isn't about my team since we are local. Sometimes cheating occures, but anyone that would cheat for 10C is pathetic and needs a life. Anyway, I had a girl walk up to my tryouts a year ago. She looked very mature for I thanked them for coming and explained 12U tryouts start in an hour. They told me they were there for 10U.

I tripple varrified the birth certificate. Confriming that this girl was who she said she was became simple since she went to school with my kid. Now the tryout begins and she clearly has a ton of talent, but she is also very very raw. She had been cut by other teams that very fall because they determined her to raw. So we add her and in the fall didn't hear a peep. But this young lady went to work over the winter.

Her parents paid for hitting lessons from one of the best hitting coaches in the city. She not only attended our teams practices, but also went to our 16U teams practices that was her hitting coach. All the long she is a half yer more mature. Every time I start a new job my husband disappears.
